Why
is CompTIA HTI+ retiring?
The CompTIA HTI+
certification is retiring because based on research and analysis in
2006, CompTIA determined that a new updated certification, the
CEA-CompTIA DHTI+ (Digital Home Technology Integrator) better meets the
needs of the industry today. CompTIA strives to keep our certifications
up-to-date to meet the demand for current technologies included in the
certification exam objectives.
While CompTIA HTI+ is
a two-part examination, it was determined during this research and
analysis that a single exam was more appropriate for the nature of the
new exam CEA-CompTIA DHTI+. This new exam was launched in March, 2007
and is positioned to be the foremost certification for the digital
home technology integrator.
When is CompTIA HTI+ retiring ?
The HTI+ certification
is retiring September 30, 2007. Emails have been sent multiple
times from March, 2007 through July, 2007 to those candidates who have
taken one of the two HTI+ exams. A discounted voucher for DHTI+ has
been offered to all of those candidates. The CompTIA HTI+ exam and
certification will not be available after September 30, 2007 and will be
replaced by the CEA-CompTIA DHTI+ certification (described below).
What is the difference between the CompTIA HTI+ & CEA-CompTIA DHTI+
Certifications?
The main difference
between CompTIA HTI+ and CEA-CompTIA DHTI+ is the target certification
candidate. CompTIA HTI+ was designed to be an entry-level
certification, providing validation for knowledge of all aspects of home
network integration, including structured wiring installation and
integration of all home sub-systems. CEA-CompTIA DHTI+ has been
designed to validate the knowledge required to configure, integrate,
maintain, troubleshoot, and comprehend the basic design concepts of
electronic and digital home systems. Structured wiring and basic hand
and tool skills are not covered in CEA-CompTIA DHTI+.
What is CEA-CompTIA DHTI+?
The Consumer
Electronics Association (CEA) and the Computing Technologies Industry
Association (CompTIA) have partnered to bring the digital home industry
a new certification that validates an individual has the basic skills
and knowledge to configure, integrate, maintain, troubleshoot, and
comprehend the basic design concepts of electronic and digital home
systems. The target candidate could work in a variety of industries and
positions related to home technology, including technology integrators,
security system technicians, cable, satellite, telecommunications, and
A/V installers, electricians, and network administrators. CompTIA
recommends individuals have 18-24 months experience in the some area of
home integration technology.
Who
should get CEA-CompTIA DHTI+ certified?
The target candidate
could work in a variety of industries and positions related to home
technology, including technology integrators, security system
technicians, cable, satellite, telecommunications, and A/V installers,
electricians, and network administrators. CompTIA recommends individuals
have 18-24 months experience in the some area of home integration
technology. An individual that earns the CEA-CompTIA DHTI+
Certification is an excellent candidate to perform or manage integration
projects and conduct troubleshooting of installed networks.
How
were the DHTI+ exam objectives developed?
CompTIA employs an
industry accepted & psychometrically sound process of Job Task Analysis
that utilizes industry Subject Matter Experts (SME) and a worldwide
industry survey. The SME group meets to make recommendations to the
content of the objectives, and the survey validates & adjusts the SME
recommendations. The worldwide survey has statistically validated
resulting objectives.
How
can I register for the CEA-CompTIA DHTI+ exam?
CompTIA exams are
available through our partner test providers, Thomson Prometric and
Pearson VUE. Visit either of those sites to find a test center near you
and to schedule your CEA-CompTIA DHTI+ Exam time.
Where can I obtain
training materials for the CEA-CompTIA DHTI+ exam?
Bedrock Learning offers
online
courses
and
live workshops which teach to the DHTI+ Certification.
What if I already have CompTIA HTI+?
CompTIA encourages
people holding the HTI+ certification to update their certification by
taking the CEA-CompTIA DHTI+ exam. If you are CompTIA HTI+ certified,
you will receive an offer for a very significant discount to the exam
fee to upgrade.
Why
the name change?
While conducting
industry research in preparation for a regularly scheduled update for
CompTIA HTI+, the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) got involved to
serve a shared need among the members of each association. That need is
rooted in the capabilities of digital systems within the home. With the
infusion of IT into consumer electronic products, digital systems have
become more popular and more powerful than ever before. The unique
contribution of DHTI+ is using the IP network as the backbone for
digital systems integration. CompTIA and CEA want to emphasize that
contribution by including “Digital” in the certification name.
As a result, CompTIA
HTI+ will become CEA-CompTIA DHTI+ (Digital Home Technology Integrator).
Who
is CEA?
The
Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) is the preeminent trade
association promoting growth in the consumer technology industry through
technology policy, events, research, promotion and the fostering of
business and strategic relationships. CEA represents more than 2,100
corporate members involved in the design, development, manufacturing,
distribution and integration of audio, video, mobile electronics,
wireless and landline communications, information technology, home
networking, multimedia and accessory products, as well as related
services that are sold through consumer channels. Combined, CEA's
members account for more than $125 billion in annual sales. CEA's
resources are available online at
www.CE.org, the definitive source for information about the consumer
electronics industry. CEA also sponsors and manages the International
CES - Defining Tomorrow's Technology. All profits from CES are
reinvested into industry services, including technical training and
education, industry promotion, engineering standards development, market
research and legislative advocacy.
