Glossary Sample
100BaseT – an Ethernet local area network that uses twisted-pair wiring and is physically laid out in a star topology, where each piece of equipment on the network is connected to a central hub. The 100 stands for 100 Megabits per second, the Base means baseband, and the T denotes that this standard uses twisted-pair cable.
Network Interface Card (NIC) – an expansion board that plugs into a PC or peripheral and manages the flow of information over the network. Also known as a network adapter.
Server – a computer or device on a network that manages a network’s resources. For example, a file server is a computer and storage device dedicated to storing files. Any user on the network can store files on the server. A print server is a computer that manages one or more printers, and a network
