This volume is the first in a series of three books on smart home and connected office technologies. Together, the three books are designed to prepare the reader to deliver systems and devices for intelligent and connected living at work and home. The series covers installation, networking, communications, audio and video, security and protection, automation and control, and the skills for success when providing these systems. Each book is also intended to be a stand-alone resource. This book is specifically designed to lay the foundation for for the installation, integration, and troubleshooting of power-limited systems.

About the Author

Helen M. Heneveld is a recognized and respected industry expert who speaks and consults worldwide for the smart home industry. Her early entry to the industry in the 1980s with a home automation installation business and her years of teaching and speaking in the United States, Canada, Australia, Dubai, and Europe give her a unique perspective on the many aspects of business in the connected world. She serves as a board member for the CTA Smart Home Division and was the first female member on the CEDIA Board of Directors. With a unique ability to see through the hype, identify new and impactful technologies, and pinpoint potential opportunities, she continues to share her understandings by attending industry events and writing articles in trade publications.
Heneveld has extensive experience in smart home and connected technologies, having worked with startups and Fortune 500 firms, including Amazon, Intel, Microsoft, and ADI distribution owned by Honeywell. She co-authored the first and second editions of DHTI+ Home Technology Integrator All-In-One Exam Guide by McGraw-Hill, authored Residential Technologies Terms and Definitions, authored Audio, Video, and Streaming Media Technologies by the electrical training Alliance, and is currently working on a third resource book to train technicians for the industry and 21st Century jobs. Heneveld also oversees Bedrock Learning, a training solution company providing online courses and resources to the smart home industry. Sought after for consulting services, Heneveld works with manufacturers, installation companies, and those active or looking to get involved in the smart home and connected world markets. Heneveld earned a bachelor’s and master’s degree in education and an MBA from the University of Michigan; she is also CEDIA Installer 1 Certified and CEA-CompTIA DHTI+ Certified. Recognized with the 2018 CTA Mark of Excellence Leadership Award and the 2013 Women in Consumer Technology Legacy Award, she is passionate about the industry and helping others.
